Rihanna Channels Amelia Earhart for ‘Harper’s BAZAAR’ | V Magazine
Is there anything Rihanna can’t do? A new story for Harper’s BAZAAR‘s March issue finds the singer stepping into the cockpit (literally), channeling pioneering American aviator Amelia Earhart—the first female pilot to traverse the Atlantic Ocean.
In the Mariano Vivanco-lensed images, Rihanna stands atop a retro-looking airplane, hangs around an air hanger with a crew of bomber-clad boys, and manages to throw on some glamorous evening gowns and on-trend utilitarian wear (courtesy of stylist Mel Ottenberg). The editorial is accompanied by an essay by Earhart first written for BAZAAR in 1929, as part of the magazine’s year long 150th anniversary celebration. All things considered, given the ways in which Rihanna has served as a pioneer in both fashion and music, the comparison between the two women is not an unfitting one.
