This will be the Oscar-winning actor’s first regular television role.
Actress Penélope Cruz is set to play Versace designer Donatella Versace for the third season of FX’s hit show American Crime Story.
The third season, titled Versace: American Crime Story, will focus on the untimely murder of Gianni Versace. Though fans of the show were hoping for Lady Gaga to portray Versace, given the singer’s history with show creator Ryan Murphy, Cruz will lead as the show’s central character in her first regular TV series role. Versace: American Crime Story’s television debut will be an adaptation of the book Vulgar Favors by Maureen Orth. Versace’s real-life murderer, serial killer Andrew Cunanan, will be played by actor Darren Criss while Edgar Ramirez will play Gianni Versace.
The show will hopefully provide some never-before-seen insight into one of the fashion industry’s most shocking and mysterious deaths.
