TINASHE’S NEW SINGLE “FLAME”
Singer-dancer-model Tinashe returns with her first release since her November mixtape Nightride, the alleged companion piece to her upcoming sophomore album Joyride which she describes as “two things that are equally the same.” The single is titled “Flame” and unlike her R&B influenced debut album Aquarius, “Flame” is a catchy pop tune that you’ll probably involuntarily be bopping to without realizing it until about half way through the song.
The song begins with a pounding drum and various synthesizers, setting up the track’s medium tempo and desperate tone that Tinashe takes on as an anxious, worried lover.
“My body hurts with every heart beat/ Just say I’m not the only one,” Tinashe painfully sings before the chorus erupts. “C’mon, tell me that you’ve still got the flame for me/ And tell me that you still want to stay, don’t leave.” And to make the song even a little more heart wrenching, Tinashe tells her man that she’s never given up in her heart, and even though a part of her doesn’t work, he needs to let her know that he still has the flame for her.
Despite the somber subject matter of the track, the percussive steady beat and the great vocals from Tinashe could easily make this song a summer radio hit. Until then, we’ll have to patiently wait for the announcement of a release date for Joyride.
